Welcome to the Orange Volunteer Fire Department’s Official Website!

We invite you to join us in commemorating a century of resilience, service, and community spirit as we celebrate our 100th anniversary!

This year marks a momentous occasion for the Orange Volunteer Fire Department (OVFD) as we celebrate 100 years of dedicated service to our community. Since our founding in 1925, we have proudly stood by the residents and businesses of Orange, CT, providing critical emergency services, fire safety education, and unwavering support during times of need.

To commemorate this incredible milestone, we are planning a series of exciting events beginning in March 2025 and culminating in December with a grand 100th Anniversary Gala. These events will honor our history, celebrate our volunteers, and bring the community together to reflect on a century of service and dedication.

Establishment and Early Years

The Orange Volunteer Fire Association, Inc. (OVFA) was established in 1925 by a group of dedicated residents who recognized the need for an organized fire service in the Town of Orange, Connecticut. These founding members, motivated by a sense of community and service, volunteered their time and resources to safeguard their neighbors from the dangers of fire. In its early years, OVFA faced challenges such as lack of modern equipment and facilities, yet their commitment to protecting the community never wavered.

Expansion and Modernization

As Orange grew, so did the OVFA. By the 1950s and ’60s, we expanded our fleet, built new stations, and adapted to the increasing demands of a developing town. The department modernized its equipment, responding to emergencies with state-of-the-art fire engines and a ladder truck to meet the town’s evolving needs.

Professionalization and Community Engagement

By the 1980s, OVFA had become a professional, highly respected organization in the fire service. The department focused on rigorous training and certification programs and specialized in handling hazardous materials incidents and advanced emergency responses. Community engagement also became a cornerstone of the department’s mission, with beloved traditions like the annual carnival and Santa’s Helper strengthening our bond with Orange residents.

Recent Developments and Future Outlook

In recent years, the OVFD has embraced cutting-edge technology and expanded its emergency response capabilities. From acquiring a 100-foot ladder truck to investing in rescue apparatus for critical accidents, the department continues to evolve to meet today’s challenges. As we look to the future, our commitment to excellence and community service remains stronger than ever.

100 Years of Service: A Centennial Celebration

As we approach our 100th anniversary in 2025, we are excited to celebrate a century of service, dedication, and volunteerism. Throughout the year, we will host events that reflect our rich history and honor the volunteers who have served over the decades. These celebrations will culminate in December with our 100th Anniversary Gala, marking this incredible milestone.

We extend our deepest thanks to the Orange community for your support throughout the years. We look forward to celebrating this historic occasion with you and continuing our tradition of excellence for many years to come.
